Happy New Year from everyone here at Jameson Prosthetics. As we step into 2025, we’re taking a look at the technologies, practices, and health shifts that are shaping the year ahead. We’ve rounded up the “ins” that are defining this new chapter and the “outs” we’re leaving behind. Jameson Prosthetics is ready to make some waves in 2025 – here’s to another year of exciting possibilities!
Mental Health
Mental health is just as important as physical health, and taking the first step toward support can make a world of difference. A great place to begin is at AmputeeWellbeing.org, where you can complete a brief questionnaire to assess if you might benefit from mental health resources. Additionally, we’ve compiled a list of mental health providers who accept insurance, and we’d be more than happy to share this valuable resource with you.
PM&R (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation)
The quarterback of your healthcare team! A PM&R doctor oversees treatment planning, rehabilitation, pain management, and care coordination. They collaborate closely with all members of your healthcare team to ensure a seamless, comprehensive approach to your care.
Adjustable Sockets
In 2024, a new code was introduced to cover the cost of adjustable socket technology, marking a significant advancement in prosthetic care. This innovation enhances the comfort, functionality, and fit of the prosthesis, eliminating the need to remove the device for socket adjustments.
Microprocessor Knees
In 2024, Medicare updated its policies to grant K2-level individuals access to microprocessor-controlled knees (MPKs). Research has shown that MPKs offer significant benefits for individuals with limb loss, not just those with highly active lifestyles. These advanced prosthetic knees enhance safety, promote a more natural gait, and continuously adapt to factors like walking speed, terrain, and other environmental changes.
3D Printing
3D printing is rapidly becoming a go-to technology for fabricating prostheses. At Jameson Prosthetics, we utilize 3D printing to create diagnostic, flexible, and preparatory sockets using a wide range of materials.
Comparing Yourself to Others
Every person’s journey with a prosthesis is unique. Avoid comparing your progress with others and focus on your own personal goals and progress!
Skipping PT Appointments
Physical therapy is essential for your recovery following limb loss. It plays a critical role in preserving joint flexibility and maintaining muscle strength. Skipping physical therapy can significantly delay your progress and hinder your journey toward regaining independence.
Not Cleaning Your Liner
The space between your residual limb and prosthetic liner can create an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive. To maintain both your limb’s health and the integrity of your prosthetic liner, daily cleaning with a gentle, skin-friendly soap and water is essential.
Not Following Up
Regular follow-up appointments for prosthetic care are essential for several key reasons: ensuring a proper fit and optimal comfort, monitoring progress and functionality, preventing potential complications, and adapting to any changes in health or lifestyle.
As we move forward, let’s embrace the new, learn from the past, and stay curious about what’s to come. Change is constant but one thing that will remain the same at Jameson Prosthetics is how much we value the patient experience. If you are interested in working with us, please click on the button at the top of our website to fill out an inquiry form. We look forward to shaping the future with you, one limb at a time!
